A Message from the President
Karrin Kunasek Taylor
Foundation for Environmental and Economic Progress
In 1989, a number of U.S. companies with major land holdings came together with the idea that environmental protection needn't be hostile to economic development. The Foundation for Environmental and Economic Progress was thus formed to help shape Federal law and policy regarding land use that achieves real environmental benefits while allowing reasonable use of private property.
FEEP's focus is on Federal endangered species and wetlands law and policy. Because FEEP members have operations around the United States, they see the direct, "real-world" impact of federal wetland and endangered species laws and regulations. Congress had important goals and policies in mind when it enacted the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act, and we support those goals. Indeed, as the nation's environmental and economic circumstances have evolved since the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act were passed in the early 1970s, FEEP has supported innovative programs -- e.g., wetland mitigation banking, habitat conservation planning and special area master plans, the creation of safe harbors for endangered species -- that have resulted in the conservation of millions of acres of land across the United States.
FEEP is interested in working with policymakers in Congress and the Administration, as well as other stakeholders, to identify and implement endangered species and wetlands policy. FEEP is non-partisan and believes that policy change flows best from a pragmatic, consensus-based approach.
